Study: 209 Animals Sexually Abused
Mon May 2,11:01 PM ET
STOCKHOLM, Sweden - More than 200 animals, mostly horses, have been sexually abused in Sweden since the 1970s, the country's animal protection agency said Friday in its first report on bestiality.
The government commissioned the study after reports that sexual abuse of animals could be on the rise in Sweden.
Most of the cases were reported by veterinarians and police after 2000, the study said. But it was not clear if sex with animals had become more common or if people had become more likely to report it, it said.

South Dakota fossil yields new dinosaur species
Mon May 2,11:16 AM ET
CHICAGO (Reuters) - A fossil found in South Dakota is that of a never before seen species of dinosaur, a horse-sized plant eater with spikes on its bony flat head, scientists said on Monday.
"When my colleagues saw a CAT scan of the new fossil, they tore up their family tree diagrams and said, 'Back to the drawing board!' ... We never suspected such a creature existed," said paleontologist Robert Bakker.
Discovery of the flat-headed member of the pachycephalosaur family changes the view of dinosaur history during the final days of the Cretaceous Period 66 million years ago, showing that family trees were still evolving even as the entire dinosaur world was about to go extinct, the Children's Museum of Indianapolis said in announcing the find.

Fossils illuminate fish evolution
The animals lived in a time when Africa was in an ice age
Fossils of an ancient fish - dating back 450 million years, when the creatures had neither bones nor teeth - have been found in South Africa.
The finds, which are 50 million years older than any other fossil fish in Africa, will help provide a "missing link" in the evolution of early fish.
The first of eight fossil specimens was dug up in 1994, and named "Nelson" after the newly elected president.
The research is being conducted by a UK-South African team of scientists.

Gardener unearths Bronze Age tools, weapons
Wednesday, April 27, 2005 Posted: 12:36 PM EDT (1636 GMT)
LONDON, England (Reuters) -- A man landscaping his garden in eastern England has unearthed a major hoard of tools and weapons dating back nearly 3,000 years, an archaeologist revealed on Tuesday.
The hoard is among the largest finds in Britain from the late Bronze Age, consisting of 145 items including spear and axe heads, swords and metal working tools.
"This is one of the biggest late Bronze Age hoards ever found in Norfolk and is up there among the major finds in Britain," said Alan West, curator of archaeology at Norwich Museum some 100 miles northeast of London.
"The items are in good condition and this find is another significant piece in the Bronze Age jigsaw adding to our knowledge of the period," he told Reuters.

Radi na principu X zracenja! Skeniranje samo za 11 sekundi!
PATIENTS IN 3D PICTURES
A revolutionary new x-ray machine which takes 3D pictures of patients is making diagnosis easier and cutting waiting lists.
The half-a-million-pound scanner has been unveiled at a hospital in Hastings.
The machine is being hailed as a medical breakthrough and is much faster than normal CAT scanners.
It takes 64 slices of x-rays of half a millimetre width to build a 3D picture of the body.
Radiographer Chris Brandt said: "It's better because we have a lot more information and can look from front to back, side to side and from top to bottom without loss of resolution."
The scanning process takes only 11 seconds, which means patients undergo less trauma.

WASHINGTON - A planet that may be Earth-like — but too hot for life as we know it — has been discovered orbiting a nearby star.
The discovery of the planet, with an estimated radius about twice that of Earth, was announced Monday at the
"This is the smallest extrasolar planet yet detected and the first of a new class of rocky terrestrial planets," Paul Butler of the Carnegie Institution in Washington said in a statement. "It's like Earth's bigger cousin."
Geoffrey Marcy, professor of astronomy at the University of California, Berkeley, added: "Over 2,000 years ago, the Greek philosophers Aristotle and Epicurus argued about whether there were other Earth-like planets. Now, for the first time, we have evidence for a rocky planet around a normal star."
Though the researchers have no direct proof that the new planet is rocky, its mass means it is not a giant gas planet like Jupiter, they said. They estimated the planet's mass as 5.9 to 7.5 times that of Earth.

Cak i ako pokusaju proci ce kao nuklearno oruzje.
